The US-Africa leaders summit was held between 4-6 August in Washington DC, the first ever event any US President has held with African heads of state and government. The theme for the August 4-6 summit was "Investing in the Next Generation''. On the side events of the summit, recording artist, American RnB and hip hop recording artist, Akon met Kenya's President at his hotel suite to discuss a number of issues. "Visiting President Kenyatta of Kenya. He has great visions for Kenya and we shall be there in September to discuss how to make those vision come to life," Akon noted on his Instagram profile. Through his project, Lighting Africa, Akon intends to bring electricity to one million households before the end of this year.
