Bebe Cool withdrawn from Club Music Video Awards
A day after releasing the Club Music Video Awards, Bebe Cool has been withdrawn from the only category he had been nominated. The nomination list was released on Valentine's day with the likes of Winnie Nwagi and Irene Ntale dominating the list plus lots of unknown artists.
Bebe Cool re-echoed his earlier position where he clearly requested all organisations or awarding bodies not to consider him for any nomination after a cartoon in one of the dailies depicted him as having vested interests in the just concluded Hipipo Awards.
In the Club Music Video Awards, Bebe Cool was nominated in two categories, Viral Video and Choreography, but the in viral video list, Bebe Cool's Kabulengane was competing with two of Winnie Nwagi's songs, Musawo and Magic, this must have upset him the more. Farmer by Sheebah and Ykee Benda was the other nomination.
The Dede singer reached out to the organisers asking them if they did not get his message relating to local nominations, a source from Club Music told him of how they did..Please remove me from the list and issue a statement because I was clear from the onset.
The organisers were forced to remove Bebe from the list and also issued a statement to that effect;
"Club Pilsener would like to confirm that Bebe Cool has officially been withdrawn from the Viral Video and Choreography categories in which he was nominated as he (Bebe Cool) requested."
"The categories will maintain the the three entries selected. This will in no way affect our brand promise to support the local music industry and we thank and congratulate all the nominees. We would also like to say a special thank you to our fans for the continued support and look forward to seeing you on Saturday March 18."

On Saturday, all roads led to Serena Hotel and the theme for the night was; Dress to Inspire. Helen Lukoma attended but she suffered a wardrobe malfunction.
Helen Lukoma was a red carpet host at the ASFA's 2016, they were held at Serena Hotel last Saturday. The Binyuma singer had the longest slit which went all the way to her torso.
But the golden horizontal wrap revealed a little more than she had intended to show, there was not even a C-string under, However, the House of Lukoma boss was quick to come to her defence with what she termed as the un edited version.
"Folks I'm not daft. Fashion is Fashion, It's just a long normal slit. My fans, you should know that there are those whose main interest is to spoil for others, though, I love you all and as for me, I have no problem..."
Helen was later joined by best female friend, Leila Kayondo in the Victoria Room at Serena Hotel.
"Understand your audience.... fashion is fashion but you didn't expect it to go unnoticed," One wrote.

Desire is in Sweden where she has been rocking this gold and black outfit that has left her assets on full display...
"I hope you are all okay even those that are not..." She used a line off Sheebah's Wadawa song that is dedicated to ex-lovers..
"Wadawa ex wadawa jangu olabe bwenyilila..." Meaning ..My ex where are you, you need to see my striking bod once again... In Desire Luzinda's life, there can only be one ex, Franklin Emuobor, the Naija guy who leaked her 'offals' online.
Meanwhile, our very own Desire Luzinda was among the winners for this year's Africa Crown Music Awards that were held in Stockholm Sweden. The other Ugandan artists on the nomination list were little known Rashy K and Joanita. And for some reason Desire Luzinda is not on the full list of the 13 nominated artists but she won..Congs are in order.

The trick worked of removing DJ Shiru from the DJ slot otherwise no other DJ could have that chance provided he (Shiru) was nominated. Life Time Achievement Award can as well sort him out.

"What a great way to end the 1st week of the month of March. Just learnt that I was awarded as the showbiz personality of the year at this year's Zzina Awards (entertainment awards organised by Galaxy FM in Uganda). Always an honor being recognized back home. Totally grateful to the entire team at Galaxy FM, and to my fans who make all this worthwhile," Zari noted on her wall.
The Baala singer Daxx Kartel took the day home with three awards. It's funny that when it comes to the Hipipo awards, Bebe Cool will come close to taking all the awards only to end up with noting when it comes to the Zzina awards. Could it be the fight he had with one awards organizers?, may be not, but it leaves a lot to be desired.
Sheebah and David Lutaalo have continued to give the likes of Juliana and Chameleone for the top awards of Female and Male artistes of the year, below is the list of all the Zzina awards 2015-2016 winners.
A-Pass, Winnie Nwagi, Leila Kayondo, Lydia Jazmine were some of the artists who attended the awarding event at Theatre Labonita. Notable among those missing on the winners list were Eddy Kenzo and Jose Chameleone.

Fans were left in shock at the HiPipo Awards when the Twesana singer, Sheebah Karungi turned up for the event in a red suit. Some people failed to recognize her not until she was on stage to pick her two awards for Best Female artist and Best Video for her Sili Zari song.
Her fashion sense has always been leaving nothing to imagination but this time around, the Ndiwanjawulo singer covered every inch of her body attracting lots of you're smart comments.
Her nomination as Best Female artist and subsequent win could be the reason she opted for the corporate wardrobe but very unlikely that she will keep that look because that is not her anyway.
For the Best Female Artist nod, Sheebah was tussling it out with Rema Namakula, Juliana Kanyomozi, Lillian Mbabazi and Irene Ntale and when it came to the other award she took home, Video of the Year, her Sili Zari video where she is on a toilet seat reading a magazine beat Bebe Cool's Everywhere I go.

Last night was the third edition of the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards that saw various East African artists, socialites and Big Brother ex-housemates among others grace the occasion. The star studded event was this time around bigger and better, away from the usual venue, MTN Arena to the incredible 5-star Serena Hotel.
Capital FM's Gaetano Kaggwa also a Big Brother Ex-Housemate and Kenyan socialite, Vera Sidika, were the MC's of the night. The fashion event was broadcasted live on NTV. Entry fee was 100k. Tonix and Bebe Cool were among the entertainers. Bebe Cool did his; Kinda Woman, Love You Everyday and his latest simple song, Freedom which he dedicated to the freedom lovers.
Other ex-Big Brother housemates who were in the house included Nigeria's Tayo, Tanzania's Idris Sultan and of course our very own former Miss Uganda Stella Nantumbwe (Ella) and Esther Akankwasa better known as Small Pepper.
Some of the highlights of the event included that moment when Meddie Ssentongo was presenting an accolade, Judith Heard who emerged from the backstage to pick her award and of course the Pablo VS. Abryanz moment of choosing the best dressed, it was drama all the way when the nak3d dressed lady was close to taking the award for most dressed.
Outside Serena, MC Kats was busy coordinating things there but he narrowly missed falling off a hoverboard as he tried to learn how to use it.
The Rich Gang were nowhere to be seen, at least the roving cameras were not able to grab them, but Jack Pemba of Pemba Sports Africa was in the house and the lady who won the award of 'Best Female Dressed' will forever live to remember last night, she was showered with countless 100$ bills as Jack Pemba chopped his money.
Then came the moment everyone was waiting for when Nigeria's RnB Artist, Banky W hit the stage with his thrilling performance of s.exual healing...he asked all those who were s.exy to stand up as he did his thing, some did the gyrate dance.
The awarding event was sponsored by Cheki, Capital FM and NTV Uganda among others but like all awards, these ones were criticised to by the voters who claimed that the one's who were voted for did not win.

The list of nominees in the Hipipo awards was released yesterday and as expected, some are not happy with the songs or categories they have been nominated in. In most cases, many complain of not being nominated at all or being placed in the wrong category like his brother Chameleone noted a few days back, Palllaso, real name Pius Mayanja is on record for dissing the Hipipo awards, he has actually asked the team behind the awards not to ever nominate him provided they have not sorted themselves.
Pallaso also wondered how Chameleone who was voted the Best Song Writer Africa in the AFRIMA awards could miss out in the Best Song Writer Uganda.
Highlights in Pallaso's message:
"Attention !! I have been nominated in the Hipipo music awards for best Afro Pop song which is Kona !! I want to let you all my fans know that these awards are very biased and they are aiming at discrediting very hard working artists and bring them down while they value others that are willing to kiss their azZes!"
"Please don't vote for me in these awards and I kindly beg the organizing committee to take me out of this evil and please don't ever nominate me or involve my name again until you fix your sh!t and make it free and fair ...it's a digital world and people are not dumb any more.. They can definitely see that you guys are making fools out your selves."
"They asked me to perform at the award ceremony for free and ever since I said No it seems like I'm at war but my fans got my back ..My son drinks milk !! I don't value them simply because they don't value me but wanna use me to bring me down !! Twatoba has been a great song this year with a very successful concert but to them NAHHHHHHH !! Tanzanians and Kenyans are busy working and leaving us behind simply because their people have learnt to love their own with no mixed emotions!"
"I work so hard for my fans and these s____d awards can't make me or break me !! Thanks to all you that love and support my music with good intentions.. No money in the world can stop me from doing the only thing I know and I won't stop dreaming big even though these lunatics keep on dragging me back to small dreams."

"I am stunned, but also ecstatic upon hearing this news. I am so greatly honoured and humbled to be the winner of this award." I owe it to the continent that I fiercely love and am dedicated to, to do my bit to expand the often dogmatic and skewed narratives that have beleaguered if for so long."
"To be a part of continuing Komla's legacy is such an honour it feels almost like a dream. I will do my very best to justify the great trust that I have been awarded, and ensure that the benefit of this opportunity goes far beyond myself."
"Congratulations to the amazing and multi-talented @kacungira, very well deserved," Uganda's Allan Kasujja, a presenter at the BBC wrote.
The award was established to honour Komla Dumor, a presenter for BBC World News who died at the age of 41.

While in South Africa, Chameleone was hanging out with Don Ivan and Bebe Cool was with Katsha De Bank.
The MTV Africa Music Awards that were held in South Africa left Bebe Cool a bitter man that he had to tell off his fans who were trying to have a go at him following the MTVMAMA loss, but his response has since forced Chameleone to chip in between Bebe Cool and the fans.
Chameleone's intervention stems from the fact that Bebe Cool could be in for more surprises if the AFRIMMA nominations that were announced yesterday are anything to go by, Kenzo was nominated in 4 categories, Juliana 3, Bebe Cool and Chameleone were both nominated in two categories.
Matters were made worse when Kenzo was the only one nominated in the top category of Artist of the Year, and now that he is the BET's viewer's choice, anything is now possible, Chameleone had to quickly get on board to save the situation.
"From EVOLUTION to REVOLUTION!!! The only way forward is working, believing and supporting each other. My comrade Bebe Cool is a great witness to how every time a West African won an accolade they all stood up in applaud unlike East Africa people."
It's a new world of unity and self belief!!!! Like it says "Charity begins at home" it's time we move as a unit not a digit.
"Congrats to you voters who did all you could to represent your people. It's now upon us artistes to unify the people with love and support for each other. Lets meet at Serena 7th August to love a brother I know as Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool."
"It's time for the wise to comment and foolish ones to showcase. Foolish minds will tell," Chameleone added.
"I will forever stand for the pride of my people, not my ego, Blessed week, " he signed off.
That was Chameleone very careful with which words to use and amazingly, Bebe Cool got the message.
"I know my friend Dr Jose Chameleone knows what it takes to dig the road for many to use but still those who use the road blame you for the pot-holes in it. Thanks my brother," Bebe Cool responded.

The African Music Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) are back and the Sitya Loss star, Eddy Kenzo, is leading the Ugandan nominees with four (4) nominations, Bebe Cool (2), Juliana (3) and Chameleone (2). Others nominated include; MC Norman, Nash Wonder and DJ Shiru.

Juliana Kanyomozi followed with three nods, Video of the year, Afrimma Inspirational song and Best Female East Africa.
Chameleone, and Bebe Cool follow with two nominations each. Bebe Cool's love you everyday will compete with Juliana's 'Woman' for the 'Video of the Year' category. Juliana, is also nominated in the 'Best Female East Africa' category alongside with the Gyobera singer, Irene Ntale.
Star singer Chameleone is lined up with little known Mc Norman in the Best Dance Hall Artist category. DJ Shiru is nominated for Best DJ Africa while Nash Wonder is nominated for Producer of the year...

Bebe Cool is still trying to get to terms with his loss at the just concluded MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) but his 'haters' have not made it any easier for him, thus leaving him with no choice but to retaliate, and when he did, not even his darling and dear wife, Zuena was spared.
Highlights in his message
In his messages to the 'haters', the Kamwako singer starts off by reminding them of how his wife who had walked out on him in the year 2009 bounced back after he released fine tunes like Agenze and Kasepiki, "She had no choice but to return," Bebe noted.
In 2010, Bebe Cool was shot after a scuffle between him and a security guard who was trying to arrest a couple making out in the parking lot, he was shot twice in the legs with one bullet right in the upper thigh, the President visited him at Nsambya hospital, paid for his treatment in the US. It's said that his compensation money for the shooting that amounts to over Shs350m was paid recently.
"I became the first and trust me the only musician to be visited by a President," the Video of the Year nominee in the MTVMAMA2015 added.
Chameleone was the other Ugandan nominated in the awards that were held in Kwazulu Natal but the husky voiced star has conceded defeat, congratulated D' Banj and thanked all that voted and rushed back to studio to release more hits as these camps (Gagamel-Bebe Cool, Firebase-Bobi Wine and Big Talent-Kenzo) tear each other apart.
"Now with just a few of these, not wanting to give you more, I still have to assure you that I'm stronger than ever. I actually thought my haters were clever but they are dense, I thing they should have prayed to Allah that I win the award to allow upcoming singers to prevail and enjoy the industry without extensively strong and experienced artists like me," Bebe Cool concluded.
He will be having his Friends of Bebe Cool concert on Aug 7 at Kampala Serena Hotel, he says, it will be a sell out as he is the only Ugandan artist without any doubt capable of selling out a concert.
Sunday, July 19 2015
"I want to thank all my fans in Uganda, East Africa as a whole and the entire diaspora for the love and support rendered during this lovely race."
"There is always a next time as I always say, what does not kill me only makes me stronger. Hard luck my bro Chameleone and let's continue with what we do best."
"Special thanks Gagamel family, gagamel management, Michael Fingers, Clarence A.Peters, Katsha De Bank and the press of Uganda."
Bebe Cool's message has received over 2,500 likes, 190 shares and close to 1,000 comments in just under 12 hours from the time he made the post.
The various camps of Kenzo and Bobi Wine are up in arms following the comments Bebe Cool has been making in the days leading up to the awarding event. Bobi Wine's camp is returning fire because their boss was told to get off drugs at the time he was trying to mobilize his team to vote for Bebe.
On the other hand, Kenzo's fans have never got to terms with the fact that Bebe Cool went to extremes to justify how Kenzo is still upcoming even after winning the BET award, it's a whole lot of -------- comments on Bebe Cool's wall.
He will certainly have a good response for them next month at the Friends of Bebe Cool concert that will be held at Serena Hotel on Aug 7, 2015.

Just a day after Kenzo made us proud, Jose Chameleone has also been nominated for the MTV 2015 MAMA Evolution award joining Bebe Cool as the second Ugandan to be nominated in the MAMA 2015 awards. Bebe Cool has been nominated in the category of Video of the Year for his song Love You Everyday directed by Clarence Peters.
Chameleone's category is tight as he is battling with top shots in the music industry, but we trust he will make it just like Eddy Kenzo did in the just concluded Black Entertainment awards provided you vote for him on mama.mtv.com/voting or to vote o instagram or twitter, one should use the hashtag #Evolutionchameleone.
Other artistes nominated in the 2015 MAMA Evolution awards are; 2 Face Idibia, P-Square, ASA, D'Banj all from Nigeria, Fally Ipupa (DRC), Samini from Ghana, Anselmo Ralph (Angola), Black Coffee and HHP from South Africa.
"The MAMA Evolution award honours established artists who have made an indelible mark on African and global music culture, taken African music to new territories around the world, pushed the boundaries of creativity, and shaped the soundscape of contemporary Africa," Tim Horwood a Director with MTVBase said.
The awarding event will be on July 18 at KwaZulu Natal. It's more than two weeks of voting, we could see this coming our way just like the other one...

Kenzo first made a stop in Rwanda to shoot his latest video but in the process missed his flight but trust him, he was able to get onto the next available flight to the US just to be in time for the awards in the city of Los Angeles.
Congratulatory messages continue to pour in...
He made it! Thank you all who voted n congratulations to you Kenzo for lifting the Ugandan flag higher - Desire Luzinda
Congs Eddy Kenzo, congs East Africa, Congs Uganda One down one to go. Let's keep voting because we need all these awards because then the industry will be at a new level - Bebe Cool

The polls were behaving in a manner that put South Africa's Cassper Nyovest under a lot of pressure after realizing that he was trailing behind Kenzo by over 4,000 votes, he urged his supporters to vote in large numbers.
The team at BET Awards has now come up with changes in the voting process. "For YOUR votes to be counted you must follow @bet_intl on Instagram and vote below on their picture with the hashtags mentioned in the picture."
This in simple terms could imply that the votes on facebook, twitter and other sites combined are not valid bearing in mind that they even go to greater length to emphasize that; For YOUR votes to be counted...it means that you can as well forget about the #IpickEddy votes on facebook and the likes and dash to Instagram to set up an account or vote if you already have one.

"An Iroko bird in Chinua Achebe's "things fall Apart novel" once said "since shooters have learnt to shoot without missing, we have learnt to fly without perching "......The Baganda also say "enswa bwekyusa eriso, naawe nga okyusa Envubo". These BET guys just declared millions of Kenzo's Facebook votes invalid saying we should only vote by Instagram. So I would like to encourage all patriotic Ugandans to vote our boy on Instagram like never before, We all agree this one is coming home."

Correct me in case am wrong but like it or hate eddy Kenzo had the biggest super hit last year..." Calvin - TV Host and Music Director at Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC).
"Award Organisers let me give you free advise, when doing your craft, go to at least 5 top TV stations and ask for their count downs, play lists or request lists and do the same for radio stations more so programs managers and presenters, after that, go to at least 5 top night clubs have a chart with the DJZ this should contribute 50% to who wins and the 50% should be votes. The entire country cannot be online to vote, but at least they have free access to TV's and FM radios." MC Kats (Doro) - City MC, Presenter NTV Uganda.

Isaac Mulindwa of the defunct Pearl of Africa Music Awards, better known as PAM Awards has spoken out on what he thinks is the future for the music awards in the country.
His invitation on NTV The Beat came on the heels of the Hipipo awards that had one artist winning six accolades and a host of fans and nominees complaining that the awards were not fair.
PAM Awards were around for 10 years, but, have been on hold for two years now. However, in just the two years the PAM awards have been on hold, we've witnessed all sorts of awards ranging from Diva awards, Golden Awards,Twaweza, Gospel Awards, Hipipo, Social Media Awards to mention but a few.
However, some of them don't go beyond their first year. Isaac is of the view that individuals cannot organise awards, it should be government or an association in the music industry to organise them, short of that, you are bound to witness more confusion.
Isaac also revealed that most sponsors have changed their sponsorship packages and the current ones do not favour those who join the wagon to earn in the short run.
"Corporate companies no longer sponsor these events and that is the reason most of the awards don't go beyond their first year. Sponsors are now into 'sales oriented' campaigns like Kyakala. In the past, they used to put in so much, but things are different now," Isaac said.

Embaga Ya dii? Akwata Empoola...literally translated as when is the wedding? Bebe replied that I take one step at a time..! Ragga Dee, Jose Chameleone and now Bobi Wine have all head their weddings apart from Bebe Cool who simply had a mini function and is yet to have a full wedding.

Dr. Hilderman beat Pastor Wilson Bugembe who was nominated twice in this category with Bamuyita Yesu and his Lengera Embaata which was expected by many to take this category.
Nali Manyi by Mirembe Simon was the other track in the nominees line up for Best Gospel Single. Dr. Hilderman joins other secular artistes like Bebe Cool, Juliana who juggle gospel music and secular music.

"Thank you all for believing in me and listening to my music. Angella I Love you so much and I dedicate this award to the girls" She also thanked Bebe Cool for predicting her the Artiste of the Year.
Iryn Namubiru who was clad in a short white dress and this time round thanked the photographers too was the Best Female Artiste and her Biroowozo took the Album of the year together with Best R&B single giving her a total of four awards.
Earlier on one of the MC's Junior Kazora(JK) who was working hand in hand with Straka and Roger Mugisha asked Bebe Cool who he thought would take the Artiste of the year and Bebe said that if it's not him then it will be Iryn to take the day clearly putting Angella and formerly Gadaffi now Chameleone out of the race.
The event which was sponsored by Channel O and Pepsi among others was broadcasted live on UBC. The UOWD poll that was running under the two categories of Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year was spot on with Katikitiki taking the day as Bebe Cool lost to Iryn for Artiste of the Year.
Moze Radio, Weasel TV and Jose Chameleone among others were not available to pick their awards. Bebe Cool in his acceptance speech for the award of Best Male Artiste which he dedicated to those three and Bobi Wine appealed to them to be present when these awards are taking place because it is the fans who have elevated them to those levels.

All is set for the Pearl of Africa Music Awards tomorrow at UMA Show grounds starting at 6:00pm The awards which started in 2003 were not held last year due to internal disputes and by the time they were sorted, it was too late to organise last year's function according to the PAM Awards Chairman Isaac Mulindwa.
Past events were hosted in places like Munyonyo and Shimoni grounds but according to Mulindwa, this year's event will be at UMA hall which is large enough to accommodate guests. He also said outdoor events were very costly courtesy of the marquee tents that were being hired from Mombasa.
The Chaiman promises lots of surprises with three different artistes from three different countries including Tshala Mwana. The stage and lighting will be by Silk Events.

They later agreed to some terms with some of the shareholders being compensated and now we are yet to have the 2009 version of the awards in 2010. Juliana Kanyomozi was the Artiste of the year. She also took the award for best female artiste while Bebe Cool took Best Male Artiste. The full list of other winners can be viewed from here: PAM Awards 2008 Winners
In the 2008 Awards, The Goodlyfe Boyz were the best New Artiste and had the 2009 versions taken place in 2009 where they had hit after hit, they could have taken most of the slots that were available in their categories.

The year is closing in on us and there is no sign of these two events taking place. Annual events like the MTN Marathon, Amakula Film Festival, Miss Uganda and the likes have taken place but looks like we are demanding for a little more.
The goats race will for sure not take place this year bearing in mind that it was held in August last year and it is now December with no mention of it. Pearl of Africa Music Awards (Pam) Awards for 2009 will be held in 2010. The date for the function has been changed at least twice.
The Royal Ascot Goat Race which normally takes place at Munyonyo Resort Beach collected over Uganda shillings 20,000,000/- last year and the contributions from the race were donated to charities and Non Governmental Organisations.
Where as PAM Awards which aim at recognizing artists/musicians in various categories has been on for the last six years, the function has been hit by management wrangles only to be rescheduled for next year if it is to take place.
This has given room to at least two sets of Awards; the Golden Music Awards and the Diva Awards for female artists only taking place on Dec 12.
Thursday, October 08 2009
Pearl of Africa Music Awards (PAM) Awards have for the last 6 years been the biggest event in the local entertainment industry but it is becoming clear the awards might not take place this year. It all started when Uganda Revenue Authority notified the organizers of the event about the over 500Mn taxes that they owed to the tax body.
The figure was later reduced to less than 100Mn but before all that was resolved; one of the major shareholders of the PAM Awards Gordon Wavamuno under Wavah Broadcasting Services (WBS Tv) filed a petition for the company to be closed now that it had failed to manage its affairs. Other Directors are Isaac Mulindwa, Gordon and Morine Wavamuno, Steven Kavuma, Sarah Kirabo, Aga Sekalala and Elvis Senkyanzi.
Management and accountability are some of the issues that have strongly hit the PAM Awards management but the case is right now in the hands of an arbitrator for both parties to resolve the matter but the it is not clear whether the matter would be sorted by the Nov 7 which is the set date for the awards.
Major sponsors like ZAIN Uganda and BELL Lager are threatening to channel the earmarked funds to other channels if the matter is not resolved sooner than later. Meanwhile another set of Awards dubbed Golden Awards taking place this coming Sunday at Nakivubo Stadium with a total of 37 categories. 30 percent of the decisions will be made by sms to 8888.
