Police in Budaka District have launched an investigation into the brutal killing of a 50-year-old private security guard who was beaten to death by an angry mob.

The deceased, identified as Tawuti Ibrahim, worked at St Emmanuel Kamuge Primary School and hailed from Kamuge Village in Kibuku District.

According to ASP Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North Police spokesperson, the tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of November 7, 2026, in Natoto Village.

Preliminary police reports indicate that on the night of November 6, Ibrahim was approached by an individual known only as Ronny. The man allegedly persuaded Ibrahim to accompany him on a motorcycle to Kameruka Sub-county to perform rituals described as witchcraft.

Before the alleged ritual could take place, local residents in Natoto Village surrounded the duo around 4:00 am and raised an alarm, branding them as thieves.

While Ronny managed to escape by abandoning the motorcycle, Ibrahim was cornered by the mob. The attackers struck him on the head with stones, leaving him with critical injuries.

Law enforcement officers from Iki Iki Town Council Police Station responded to the distress call and found Ibrahim still clinging to life. They rushed him to Budaka Health Centre IV, where he sadly passed away upon arrival.

Authorities recovered the motorcycle used by the two men alongside a brown goat with white spots from the scene. Ibrahim’s body was transferred to the health facility’s mortuary to undergo a postmortem examination as police inquiries into the mob action continue.
