Security authorities in Adjumani District have taken three individuals into custody following the brutal mob killing of a 20-year-old resident. The victim, identified as Hamis Tabuga from neighbouring Yumbe District, was found dead after being tied to an electricity pole in Forua Village, Adjumani Town Council.
Preliminary reports indicate that Tabuga was targeted by an angry crowd early Tuesday morning over allegations of stealing ducks. The confrontation escalated into a fatal assault, leaving the young man dead before law enforcement arrived at the scene.
Investigators utilized a canine unit to track down the suspects. According to police officer Collins Asea, a sniffer dog successfully led detectives to the home of a local boda boda rider, Amechiku Robert, who was arrested alongside two other unnamed accomplices.
Local leaders have strongly condemned the recurring wave of vigilantism in the area. Adjumani District Vice Chairperson Geoffrey Obulejo urged residents to desist from taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that any suspected criminals must be handed over to proper authorities.
Meanwhile, Forua Village LC1 Chairperson Godfrey Vudiga pointed out that the crime scene area remains a notorious hotspot due to unmaintained bushland. Vudiga called on private landowners to clear overgrown vegetation, which continues to provide cover for criminal activities.
Police confirmed that investigations remain active as detectives work to apprehend the remaining members of the mob involved in the killing. Read more details on the Daily Monitor.
