Resty Nanteza, a prominent radio personality in Jinja widely known as Nakapachu, has been arrested and detained at Entebbe Central Police Station. Her arrest marks a major escalation in her ongoing public feud with Jinja City Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Salim Kumakech over the operations of her foundation.
According to Mr Kumakech, multiple case files have been opened against the media figure across several regions in Uganda. The allegations involve obtaining money under false pretenses, extortion, and human trafficking linked to promises of foreign employment and educational bursaries.
Authorities revealed that numerous victims have lodged complaints claiming financial losses ranging from Shs500,000 to Shs5.5 million. The Nakapachu Foundation remains closed after local administrators pointed out that it was registered merely as a localized Community-Based Organisation rather than a national NGO, legally restricting its operations.
While investigations continue at Entebbe CPS, Ms Nakapachu has previously denied any wrongdoing, dismissing the accusations as a smear campaign orchestrated by local rivals and critics. Further details are available in the Daily Monitor.
