Ugandan musician Mikie Wine has opened up about the resolution of a tense copyright dispute with veteran artist Ragga Dee concerning the hit song “Zuena.” The conflict previously escalated when a legal notice from MGC Law Advocates, acting on behalf of Ragga Dee, circulated widely across social media platforms. The notice accused Mikie Wine of unauthorized reproduction and performance, claiming that the track infringed upon Ragga Dee’s 2004 classic “Nkuguddemu Oyagala Cash.” Consequently, the legal team demanded a hefty compensation of Shs300 million within just seven days, threatening formal court proceedings if the demands were ignored.
However, during a recent interview with Galaxy TV, Mikie Wine shared that the dramatic standoff ultimately ended in reconciliation. He described Ragga Dee as a respected elder and father figure within the music industry, noting that the senior artist ultimately chose to forgive him.
According to Mikie Wine, the initial legal friction might have been fueled by third parties who falsely claimed that his remake ruined the integrity of the original song. Fortunately, the situation shifted once Ragga Dee personally listened to “Zuena.” The veteran artist came to appreciate the creative execution and realized that the massive popularity of the new rendition actually helped preserve his legendary musical footprint across the country.
Reflecting on the controversy, Mikie Wine firmly denied intentionally bypassing Ragga Dee before recording the track. He maintained that his primary goal was to pay homage to the veteran’s remarkable legacy, an intention that Ragga Dee eventually understood and accepted.
