A 17-year-old candidate at Kisaana Bataka Primary School in Lwengo District suffered heartbreak on Tuesday after losing her sight just as she prepared to sit her Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). The student was found openly weeping because the printed examination papers appeared completely blank to her.
According to the student, the strange condition typically begins with a severe headache accompanied by flowing tears, culminating in total temporary blindness. Curiously, her vision reportedly returns to normal whenever she steps outside the classroom environment.
Her teacher, Mr. Baker Malo, noted that the candidate first experienced eye complications during the second term. Although her parents sought medical treatment and she appeared to have recovered, the problem recurred right at the onset of her final examinations.
Speaking from their home in Bilunuma Village, Kyazanga Sub-county, the pupil’s mother, Ms. Annet Nakalunga, expressed deep anguish. She explained that visiting multiple health facilities has yielded confusing results, as the condition often temporarily improves whenever they reach a hospital setting, only to return once the girl goes back to school.
The family is now appealing to well-wishers for urgent financial and medical assistance to help uncover the cause of the affliction and secure proper treatment. Meanwhile, the school’s headteacher, Ms. Martha Namirembe, confirmed that three candidates in total missed the exams at the institution, including two others whose parents recently relocated.
