The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has arrived in the Ssese Islands to spearhead the ‘Situla Omutindo’ initiative. The outreach program is designed to inspire the Kabaka’s subjects to elevate their livelihoods, tackle pressing health concerns, and safeguard their rich cultural roots.

During his engagements, Katikkiro Mayiga strongly urged island residents to heed the Kabaka’s call to combat HIV and other diseases. He emphasized the collective responsibility of ending the HIV epidemic as a public health threat by the year 2030.

As part of his itinerary, Mayiga explored cultural landmarks, including a prominent local tree known as the ‘Ssese tree,’ which holds historical significance tied to the naming of the islands. He underscored the necessity of keeping traditions alive for future generations, noting that every facet of Buganda heritage carries deep value and meaning.

Accompanied by a high-ranking delegation, the Katikkiro traveled alongside the Minister of Health, Choltilda Nakate; the Minister of Agriculture, Hajj Amis Kakomo; and Dr. Ben Muyinza Ssekamatte, the Chairperson of the Buganda Cultural and Development Foundation (BUCADEF) Board.
