Education knows no age limits, and one Mubende District resident is proving this truth by returning to the classroom decades after abandoning his studies.
Justus Tukamushaba, a 45-year-old preacher at Kisoji Church of Uganda in Kiyuni Sub-county, recently joined hundreds of thousands of candidates across the country to sit for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) at Kigamba Primary School. He sat his papers alongside young learners who are young enough to be his grandchildren.
Tukamushaba revealed that his primary motivation for returning to school is spiritual and vocational. He wants to master the English language to enhance his ministry.
“I wanted to learn English so that I can read and understand the English Bible clearly, especially when preaching to educated congregations,” Tukamushaba explained.
Dropping out of school years ago did not extinguish his ambitions. For Tukamushaba, successfully completing primary school is merely the foundational step of a much larger academic journey. He harbors ambitions of advancing to secondary school and ultimately fulfilling his calling to become a Reverend in the Church of Uganda.
His inspiring dedication highlights the enduring value of education and personal development, regardless of a person’s age or current station in life.
