The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has successfully intervened to secure the registration of 11 Primary Leaving Examination candidates from Skyland Primary School in Wakiso District. The critical oversight came to light during the national candidate briefing sessions.
According to UNEB Principal Public Relations Officer Jennifer Kalule Musamba, the affected school lacked its own independent examination centre number. Consequently, the administration had arranged to register the learners through another school located in Mukono District. However, the arrangement fell through, and administrators realized on briefing day that they had been misled and the children were omitted from the candidate list.
Prompt action by the school management and UNEB averted a potential educational disaster. After being alerted to the crisis, UNEB officials instructed the school to find an alternative center within Wakiso. All 11 learners were swiftly re-registered at Kyebando UMEA Primary School, guaranteeing that they would not miss their national tests.
This year, UNEB expects a total of 920,833 candidates to sit for the PLE examinations across 16,478 designated centers nationwide, marking a 12.5 percent increase in candidature compared to the previous year. The examinations run across two days, starting with Mathematics and Social Studies with Religious Education on the first day, followed by Integrated Science and English on the second day.
UNEB has continued to emphasize the critical need for schools to thoroughly verify candidate registration details well in advance. Authorities have also urged all center heads to ensure candidates are properly briefed and that examination security and credibility remain top priorities.
