Uganda’s Hotel and Tourism Training College (HTTC), based in Jinja, is advancing efforts to enhance regional cooperation through a proposed partnership with Kenya Utalii College (KUC), a prominent hospitality and tourism training institution in Africa.
The initiative follows a courtesy visit by an HTTC delegation, headed by Principal Richard Kawere and Vice-Guild President Zahara Nyomera, to KUC in Nairobi. The delegation met with KUC Principal and CEO Mark Ogendi alongside members of the management team to identify key areas of mutual cooperation.
Discussions primarily centered on student and staff exchange programs, professional development, and knowledge sharing. Both learning institutions expressed a strong commitment to formalizing the relationship through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a structured framework for joint activities.
Kawere noted that the forthcoming MoU will provide a solid foundation for cross-border learning and institutional relations. As the tourism and hospitality sector becomes increasingly interconnected, educators emphasize the importance of regional collaboration to expose learners to diverse professional settings.
During the visit, HTTC student leaders also engaged with their KUC counterparts to discuss student leadership and professional growth. Nyomera highlighted the value of exchanging ideas and perspectives on the hospitality profession.
Formerly known as the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI), HTTC transitioned under the TVET Act, 2025, to provide demand-driven vocational training. By partnering with established regional entities like Kenya Utalii College, HTTC seeks to elevate training standards and equip students for competitive regional and international labor markets.
