Residents of Obongi District are questioning the pace of regional development as they mark yet another year without a single tarmacked road. Situated in the West Nile sub-region, Obongi remains the only district in the area entirely lacking paved infrastructure, leaving locals to contend with persistent infrastructural neglect.

During the rainy season, the situation worsens significantly. The unpaved murram roads turn into thick mud, transforming key routes like the Kulikulinga-Obongi stretch into treacherous obstacles. Transporting agricultural produce to neighbouring districts becomes a daily struggle for farmers and traders, who often watch trucks get stuck in the mire.

Local road users have repeatedly voiced their frustrations over how the poor state of the transport network hampers economic growth, healthcare access, and education. Despite ongoing calls for intervention, the community continues to wait for tangible action from authorities to upgrade the district’s road network.
