The Church of Uganda’s House of Bishops has elected Reverend Canon Eridad Milton Shissa as the ninth Bishop of Mbale Diocese. The election took place during a significant meeting held at the Syamalede Archdeaconry headquarters in Busia District, within the Bukedi Diocese.

Rev Canon Shissa is widely recognized and respected for his monumental contribution to the spiritual life of the Bagisu people. Notably, he played a crucial role in translating the Holy Bible into Lumasaba, making scripture vastly more accessible to local communities in eastern Uganda. This translation work brought the Christian gospel closer to the hearts and language of the faithful in the region.

His ascension to the helm marks a major milestone for Mbale Diocese, which stands as one of the oldest and most prominent Anglican dioceses in eastern Uganda. The appointment comes during a period of transition and active leadership renewal within the Church of Uganda.

Church members and leaders across the region have welcomed the election, anticipating further spiritual growth and community development under his pastoral guidance. Consecration and enthronement details are expected to be announced by church authorities in due course.
