Hoima District authorities have intensified efforts to recover Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP) funds following a dismal repayment rate by beneficiaries in Buraru Sub-county. Out of the Shs122 million disbursed to 14 youth groups since the 2014/2015 financial year, less than Shs13 million has been paid back.

To address this challenge, top district leaders have joined forces to mobilize beneficiaries. The team includes Vice Chairperson Fridah Kabagahya, Chief Administrative Officer Sarah Nakalungi, and Hoima District Youth Council Chairperson Robert Kajura.

Speaking to beneficiaries during a recent gathering in Kisagara Village, Joyce Kabatalya, the Senior Development Officer and YLP focal person, confirmed the low recovery figures. District leaders stressed that returning the revolving funds is crucial so that other young people can access capital to start their own income-generating activities.

Chief Administrative Officer Sarah Nakalungi urged the youth to revive their struggling group enterprises, build stronger cooperation, and adopt a saving culture. She also encouraged them to utilize the region’s fertile soils and favorable climate to invest in commercial agriculture for sustainable household income.

Political leadership has pledged unwavering support toward the recovery drive. Vice Chairperson Kabagahya assured the technical team that local leaders will actively engage defaulters to ensure compliance, ultimately fostering broader socio-economic transformation in the area.
