The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd. has extended its corporate social responsibility efforts to Kyotera District, handing over modern sanitation infrastructure and a wide range of sports equipment to the Kabonera community.

The initiative is designed to directly benefit residents across several villages, including Nabigasa, Kabugimbi, Lukoma, and Kakoma, alongside local schools. The newly established sanitation infrastructure features a four-stance drainable pit latrine block with separate compartments for male and female users. Built with proper ventilation, lighting, and privacy features, the facility also includes a rainwater harvesting tank and landscaped surroundings to promote public health and hygiene.

In addition to improving sanitation, EACOP delivered substantial sports equipment to foster youth engagement. The donation includes standard football goalposts, netball and volleyball poles, nets, sports jerseys, referee uniforms, whistles, and various balls. Local leaders noted that the gear will encourage organized sporting activities, build teamwork, and provide a constructive outlet for young people in the area.

Speaking at the handover ceremony in Kabonera Village, EACOP’s Social Economic Investment Manager, Matred Murungi, explained that the project falls under the company’s Social Economic Investment programme. She emphasized that the dual approach of combining health facilities with recreational gear aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically targeting good health, clean water and sanitation, gender equality, and inclusive communities.

Kyotera Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Apollo Mugume praised the intervention during the ceremony, which was attended by area Members of Parliament and local representatives. He commended EACOP for acting as a true corporate citizen and driving projects that nurture young talent and strengthen community unity. EACOP has reiterated its dedication to addressing local priorities along the pipeline corridor.
