The Wakiso District Land Office is facing intense scrutiny following formal allegations that it illegally removed beneficiary caveats from contested estate land. The property formerly belonged to the late Eng Tebyasa Matovu, a former mayor of Masaka.

Family members, led by retired Makerere University lecturer Dr. Joseph Wasswa Matovu and Ms. Imelda Matovu Gertrude Bassudde, have issued a strict seven-day ultimatum. They are demanding that the land registry reinstate the caveats immediately or face severe legal consequences.

According to a petition filed on October 29 by their legal representatives, Mwebesa Richard Advocates & Solicitors, the official complaint was directed to both the Commissioner for Land Registration at the Ministry of Lands and the Wakiso District Land Office.

The legal team has questioned the procedural integrity behind the erasure of legal encumbrances on Busiro Block 367, Plots 114 and 37 located at Mpogo, noting that the removals were executed without the consent or knowledge of the rightful beneficiaries.

The family maintains that the unlawful lifting of the caveats compromises their interests in the estate and exposes the property to fraudulent transactions. Authorities have yet to officially respond to the seven-day ultimatum as pressure mounts on the land registry to rectify the contested deletions.
