It has been one month since Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I officially ascended the throne as the 15th ruler of the Tooro Kingdom. Following his coronation on September 29, 2026—which came in the wake of the passing of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV on August 27—the new monarch has maintained a busy schedule of public appearances and administrative initiatives.
During his opening thirty days, Nyabongo I has focused heavily on reconnecting the palace directly with his subjects. He has undertaken visits to various places of worship and held extensive consultations with government officials, religious leaders, and key members of the royal family.
These initial engagements are designed to fortify local cultural institutions and lay down a clear administrative direction for his reign. Stakeholders from across the region have welcomed the proactive approach, viewing the early meetings as a positive step toward unity and sustainable development within the kingdom.
As the new king settles further into his role, palace observers expect more policy announcements aimed at preserving Tooro’s rich heritage while addressing contemporary socio-economic challenges faced by the local population.
