North Kigezi Diocese has successfully mobilized over Shs2.7 billion toward the final completion of Emmanuel Cathedral, located on Kinyasano Hill in Rukungiri Municipality. The significant milestone was announced during a special fundraising and thanksgiving event held at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala, which drew a large gathering of Christians, leaders, and well-wishers.

Organized by the North Kigezi Diocese Kampala Fellowship, the event also paid special tribute to Canon Dr Johnson Byabashaija, the Commissioner General of Uganda Prisons. Addressing the congregation, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, assured all contributors that every single coin collected for the major church development project would be managed with utmost transparency.

“We will account for every penny you have given,” Bishop Asiimwe pledged, emphasizing the church’s dedication to institutional integrity. He further revealed that the Diocese remains fully tax-compliant with the Uganda Revenue Authority, noting that fulfilling civic and spiritual duties goes hand in hand under the principle of giving to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.

Beyond church development, the Bishop strongly aligned the Diocese with national governance standards, endorsing President Yoweri Museveni’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption. He stated that the church has fully embraced the fight against graft under the rallying slogan, “Kisanja No Sleep, No Corruption.” Church leaders urged both public and private institutions to prioritize accountability, viewing integrity as a foundational pillar for building a stronger and more trustworthy Ugandan society.
