Across various societies, religious institutions command a profound level of respect and moral authority. Unfortunately, this reverence can occasionally be exploited to shield wrongdoers from accountability. When individuals wrap themselves in the cloak of faith, public perception often shifts from suspicion to blind trust.

Government investigators and the media frequently tread lightly when looking into allegations involving religious figures or organizations. This hesitation stems from a fear of sparking public outrage or being accused of religious persecution. Consequently, criminal behavior can persist unchecked for extended periods under the guise of piety and divine service.

Addressing this vulnerability requires a balanced approach to the rule of law. Authorities must ensure that no institution is above scrutiny, regardless of its religious standing. True accountability protects both the integrity of faith communities and the safety of the public at large.
