Exim Bank Uganda recently demonstrated its commitment to environmental stewardship by mobilizing employees to participate in the government’s National Cleaning Day initiative. Staff members took to the streets surrounding the bank’s head office in Nakasero, Kampala, to sweep walkways, collect stray litter, clear fallen leaves, and remove weeds from public spaces.
Heading the community service effort was the bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Edward Kanyike. Speaking to participants and local onlookers during the clean-up, Kanyike emphasized that maintaining a healthy environment requires active participation from corporate entities as well as individual citizens.
“A clean environment is a shared responsibility, and organisations have an important role to play in supporting the communities in which they operate,” Kanyike stated, encouraging neighboring businesses and residents to incorporate proper waste management and cleanliness into their daily routines.
As part of the outreach, the financial institution also handed over a collection of practical cleaning materials to Ms. Wacha Rose, the Local Council 1 Chairperson for Shimoni. The donation is intended to bolster ongoing sanitation efforts within the immediate neighborhood.
Ms. Rose expressed her gratitude for the bank’s generous contribution and echoed calls for broader corporate involvement in future cleanliness campaigns. She stressed that sustained, collective action is essential for keeping Kampala’s commercial and residential zones tidy.
Exim Bank noted that its involvement goes beyond a single calendar event, framing the cleanup as part of a broader corporate social responsibility strategy aimed at fostering sustainable community development and environmental health across Uganda.
