All Saints Cathedral in Kampala has officially been elevated to a deanery, granting the prominent worship center greater administrative independence. The historic shift was announced during a special service presided over by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Bishop of Kampala Diocese, the Most Rev. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu.

Alongside this structural change, Rev. Canon Rebecca Nyegenye was installed as the first Dean of the new deanery. This appointment makes her the first woman to hold the position, replacing the traditional title of Provost at the cathedral. Church leaders noted that the elevation aims to decentralize the administration of the Kampala Diocese, making operations smoother and bringing decision-making closer to local congregations.

During the same service, Archbishop Kaziimba ordained six deacons and one priest, urging the newly appointed clergy to serve with humility and dedication. He also used the occasion to appeal for financial support to complete the ongoing All Saints Cathedral construction project, which requires an additional Shs1.56 billion to finish the multi-billion infrastructure.

Bank of Uganda Deputy Governor Professor Augustus Nuwagaba, who attended the service, encouraged Christians to exercise patience and resilience amid current economic challenges affecting the country. Originally established in 1912 on Nakasero Hill as a small chaplaincy, All Saints Cathedral has grown into a major spiritual hub for the nation.
