A devastating road traffic accident along the Mityana-Mubende Highway in Kassanda District has left four pedestrians dead. The fatal crash took place around 9:00 pm at Kigoloba Village, involving a black Toyota Noah with registration number UBQ 511T that was heading towards Mubende from Mityana.

According to Wamala Region Police Spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi, preliminary findings suggest that the vehicle experienced a sudden tyre burst. This mechanical failure, combined with excessive speed, caused the driver to lose control of the automobile, leading it to veer off the tarmac and plough into the victims.

Authorities have identified three of the deceased as Patrick Kalyesubula, Moses, and Paul Tumuhiirwe. The identity of the fourth victim, an adult male, remained unconfirmed at the time of reporting. Emergency responders and police officers, led by Kassanda District Traffic Officer ASP Moses Kasadha, rushed to the scene to document the evidence and gather witness statements.

The bodies of the victims were moved to Kiganda Health Centre IV to undergo post-mortem examinations. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle abandoned the scene immediately after the crash and remains at large.

Police have successfully towed the wrecked vehicle to Kiganda Police Station as active inquiries into the tragic incident continue.
