A horrific road accident along the Mityana-Mubende highway in Kassanda District claimed the lives of four pedestrians on Thursday night. The tragic incident occurred at approximately 9:00 PM at Kigoloba Village.

According to the Wamala Regional Police, a black Toyota Noah with registration number UBQ 511T was traveling from Mityana toward Mubende when disaster struck. Preliminary traffic investigations indicate that the vehicle was moving at a high speed when one of its tyres suddenly burst. The driver lost control, causing the car to veer off the road and plough directly into the unsuspecting pedestrians before finally overturning.

Police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi confirmed the fatalities, identifying three of the victims as Patrick Kalyesubula, Moses, and Paul Tumuhiirwe. Authorities are still working to establish the identity of the fourth victim, an adult male, whose body remained unclaimed by press time.

In the aftermath of the crash, the driver abandoned the scene and remains at large. Kassanda District Traffic Officer ASP Moses Kasadha swiftly led a team of officers to the location to manage the situation, gather evidence, and record statements from eyewitnesses.

The remains of the victims were transported to Kiganda Health Centre IV to undergo postmortem examinations. Meanwhile, law enforcement officers towed the mangled wreckage of the vehicle to Kiganda Police Station as investigations into the deadly incident continue and efforts to apprehend the fleeing driver intensify.
