Security agencies and the National Drug Authority (NDA) have launched investigations into a sophisticated smuggling ring linking stolen government pharmaceuticals to Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) camps in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and South Sudan.

Luweero Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Ms. Miriam Nalubega Sseguya, revealed that several health workers have been interdicted following confessions that they trafficked government-procured drugs across the border into the neighbouring conflict zones.

The illicit trade involves vital medical supplies disappearing from public health facilities before finding their way into the hands of rebel combatants. NDA Spokesperson Mr. Abiaz Rwamiri confirmed that authorities are closely monitoring the supply chains and cracking down on illegal distribution networks responsible for diverting public medicines.

Recent operations have targeted illegal drug stores and individuals suspected of orchestrating the theft of significant quantities of pharmaceuticals, including HIV drugs and essential medical kits. Security forces maintain that dismantling these trafficking networks is critical to cutting off vital logistical support to rebel groups operating along the regional borders.
