President Yoweri Museveni has intervened in the administrative dispute surrounding Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs and Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC). The President has ordered a formal investigation into the unexplained withdrawal of her security detail and directed its immediate restoration.
Sources indicate that President Museveni was unaware of the decision to strip Namyalo of her guards. He has instructed relevant security authorities to identify who authorized the command. The initial security detail, consisting of Police Presidential Guard officers, was abruptly recalled on September 29, triggering intense political scrutiny and highlighting tensions within the ruling establishment.
The security removal coincided with escalating friction between traditional National Resistance Movement mobilization organs and the Patriotic League of Uganda regarding the 2031 presidential succession agenda. Tensions erupted after Namyalo’s team in Bugisu endorsed President Museveni for an extended term, drawing pushback from senior PLU figures advocating for Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
During a high-level NRM Central Executive Committee meeting at State House Entebbe, Namyalo reportedly voiced opposition to succession proposals and raised concerns about her safety. Although initially viewed as an operational matter, the President stepped in with firm directives. Counter Terrorism officers have since been deployed to replace the previous unit, allowing Namyalo to resume her official duties.
