The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has made a passionate appeal to the people of Buganda to fiercely protect their cultural identity, language, and customs. He cautioned that modern development and education should never become a reason for the younger generation to turn away from their heritage.

His message was delivered by Prince Kassim Nakibinge as the kingdom concluded a specialized seminar on culture, customs, and values organized by local clan heads. The monarch praised the organizers for designing programs that actively educate descendants about traditional roots and the Luganda language.

According to the Kabaka, preserving traditions is a vital tool for strengthening the kingdom for future generations. He urged young Africans not to feel ashamed of their identity or origins, emphasizing that education and progress should go hand in hand with cultural pride.

The monarch also championed the use of traditional gatherings, such as the Kwabya Ennyimbe (last funeral rites) ceremonies, as practical platforms to impart cultural knowledge to the youth. He called upon parents, leaders, and the entire community to take joint responsibility in raising children who speak Luganda and understand the historical significance of the Buganda Kingdom.

Addressing critics, the Kabaka questioned the double standards of individuals who label the open expression of Buganda identity as tribalism while proudly promoting their own ethnic backgrounds.
