The Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) has announced that all preparations are fully complete for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). The national tests are scheduled to take place on November 3 and 4 across the country.
Speaking from her office in Ntinda, Kampala, Uneb spokesperson Jennifer Kalule Musamba confirmed that the registration process is finalized. A total of 920,833 pupils are expected to sit for this year’s examinations. This figure marks a notable 12.5 percent increase compared to the 817,998 candidates who registered last year.
Earlier concerns regarding more than 60 schools failing to present candidates have also been successfully resolved. Ms Musamba explained that all affected schools managed to register their pupils, either by partnering with other centers or completing late registrations, ensuring no candidate is left behind.
With exams beginning on Tuesday, Uneb has strongly urged headteachers to properly brief all candidates. School administrators must caution pupils against examination malpractice and carefully walk them through the instructions outlined on the timetable. Because this marks the pupils’ very first national assessment, authorities emphasized that candidates should remain calm and avoid unnecessary panic.
Officials reminded stakeholders that the PLE is merely a stepping stone for the children to transition into secondary education, rather than an end in itself. Meanwhile, the national examination season continues to peak, with O-Level tests wrapping up this week and A-Level briefings set to begin on November 6.
