President Yoweri Museveni has called upon Egyptian investors to channel resources into Uganda’s infrastructure and manufacturing sectors. During a meeting at State House in Entebbe with a delegation led by Uganda’s Deputy Ambassador to Egypt, Lt. Gen. Charles Angina, the President emphasized the urgent need to transition from exporting raw materials to finished goods.
Museveni outlined Uganda’s economic foundation, which relies on commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services, and information and communications technology. To make locally manufactured products competitive globally, he stressed that the country requires robust and affordable infrastructure, specifically targeting electricity, railway transport, irrigation, and toll roads.
Highlighting power generation as a critical component, the President noted that affordable electricity is vital for industrial growth. He also pointed to the necessity of shifting cargo transport from roads to railways to lower logistics costs, alongside expanding irrigation to ensure year-round agricultural production that feeds local processing plants.
During the discussions, the President endorsed a proposal to establish a specialized industrial park dedicated to processing coffee and cotton. The government committed to assisting the investors in locating suitable land for the project. Furthermore, Museveni welcomed plans to sign a memorandum of understanding covering strategic developments.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Eng. Moustafa Saad Soliman Elsayed Ahamed praised Uganda’s stable investment climate and expressed enthusiasm for partnering on critical infrastructure projects. Ahamed noted that the delegation aims to deepen bilateral ties, emphasizing that African nations must collaborate to achieve sustainable economic transformation.
