Mulago National Referral Hospital recently stepped up its sanitation efforts by organizing a extensive general cleaning campaign across its entire facility. The initiative was held in direct preparation for Uganda’s National Cleaning Day, drawing active participation from hospital workers dedicated to improving overall public health standards.

Operating under the inspiring theme, “A Clean Mulago is Our Civic Duty and Essential for Public Health,” the Friday event underscored how vital rigorous hygiene is within healthcare settings. Cleanliness remains a frontline defense against hospital-acquired infections, safeguarding patients, medical personnel, and visitors alike.

During the exercise, Mulago Hospital Executive Director Dr. Rosemary Kusaba Byanyima emphasized that a sanitized environment is non-negotiable for proper patient care. She urged all staff members to embrace hygiene as an ongoing, daily obligation rather than treating it merely as a one-off event tied to organized national drives.

Dr. Byanyima further noted that achieving optimal sanitation requires the collective cooperation of everyone who works at or visits the national referral institution. She encouraged the wider public to adopt sound waste management and personal hygiene habits, stressing that effective disease prevention ultimately starts with individual accountability.

This proactive cleaning initiative successfully reinforced the hospital’s infection control protocols while aligning seamlessly with nationwide calls for a cleaner, healthier Uganda. For more details on this story, read the original report on Nile Post.
