Political relief has finally come the way of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) after the High Court upheld the election of former Attorney General Fred Ruhindi as the Member of Parliament for Nakawa Division East.

Presiding Justice Allan Nshiimye delivered a comprehensive 150-page ruling that officially dismissed an election petition filed by Ruhindi’s fierce political rival, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

The legal challenge sought to overturn the parliamentary election results. During the proceedings, the court acknowledged that the Electoral Commission (EC) had indeed committed certain administrative errors. Specifically, results from 22 polling stations were omitted during the final tally process.

However, the presiding judge ruled that these admitted omissions were not severe enough to substantially alter the final outcome of the election. Consequently, the court maintained that Ruhindi remains the legitimately elected representative for the constituency.

Following the delivery of the judgment, Mufumbiro—who was escorted out of the courtroom under heavy guard by prison warders—indicated that his legal team is already preparing to challenge the ruling. He stated that they intend to file a formal notice of appeal to contest the High Court’s decision.
