The Ugandan government has strongly defended the performance of the newly introduced digital number plates system, asserting that the technology is fully functional and meeting expectations.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a high-level meeting at State House, Mr. Yunus Kakande, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President, stated that the system has proven its capability to track and retrieve vehicle data nationwide.
According to Mr. Kakande, the operational viability of the technology was thoroughly demonstrated during the meeting by the Assistant Secretary of Police, Mr. Felix Baryamuhisaki. He emphasized that claims suggesting the system is ineffective are completely unfounded.
Authorities are now shifting their focus toward finalizing the financial framework for the project. Officials are discussing the specifics of the full-scale issuance phase, including how revenue and operational costs will be shared between the government and the private service provider before the rollout proceeds further.
