As Uganda steps up preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Ministry of Works and Transport has conducted a reconnaissance survey of planned pedestrian facilities along three major road corridors.

The recent inspection covered key routes including Jinja Road, Namboole Road, and the Kampala Northern Bypass. Carried out under Lot 8 of the pedestrian infrastructure works, the survey aims to assess project sites and guide the implementation of facilities designed to enhance pedestrian safety, accessibility, and movement.

The exercise brought together the ministry’s project team, acting as the client, alongside Engineering Trade Links, the contractor tasked with executing the civil works.

According to transport officials, this initial reconnaissance helps establish site-specific requirements and shapes the upcoming stages of implementation. The improvements are critical as part of Kampala’s wider transport network upgrade to accommodate the influx of football teams, officials, supporters, and international visitors expected during the tournament, which Uganda is co-hosting alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
