President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has hosted a delegation of Egyptian investors at State House, Entebbe, urging them to explore investment opportunities in Uganda’s economy. The meeting, led by Uganda’s Deputy Ambassador to Egypt Lt. Gen. Charles Angina, focused heavily on boosting value addition and expanding critical infrastructure.
Addressing the delegation, President Museveni highlighted that Uganda produces abundant agricultural products, minerals, and forest resources, but urgently requires more factories to process these raw materials. He explained that the Ugandan economy is anchored on four primary sectors: commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services, and information and communications technology (ICT).
To make locally manufactured goods competitive globally, the President stressed the necessity of affordable electricity, noting that power generation infrastructure can be established by the government or private investors with patient capital. He also pointed to railway transport as a crucial priority for shifting heavy cargo off roads, lowering transportation costs, and enhancing trade efficiency.
Furthermore, President Museveni identified irrigation and toll roads as key areas for private sector involvement. He explained that reliable irrigation systems would stabilize rain-fed agriculture to ensure consistent raw material supplies, while toll roads offer investors a viable avenue to recover costs through user fees.
The visiting investors welcomed the discussions and proposed signing a memorandum of understanding for strategic projects. They also pitched an initiative to establish a dedicated industrial park for coffee and cotton processing. Eng. Moustafa Saad Soliman Elsayed Ahamed, speaking on behalf of the delegation, praised Uganda’s stable investment climate and reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and supporting African-led development.
