The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has announced a significant milestone in its grassroots campaign, revealing that it has collected 6.4 million endorsement signatures in support of its national chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for the 2031 presidential elections.

According to PLU official Frank Mwesigye, the massive collection of signatures was achieved in a span of just six weeks. The campaign utilized a dual approach, gathering support through physical endorsement books distributed across the country as well as online submissions via their official website.

Mwesigye noted that the mobilization drive is currently ahead of schedule. While the organization initially targeted 20 million signatures by September 2027, current projections indicate that the campaign could gather up to 25 million signatures by early March next year.

A regional breakdown of the figures shows strong engagement nationwide. The Northern Region currently leads the mobilization efforts with 1,810,400 signatures, closely followed by the Eastern Region with 1,702,100. Meanwhile, the Western Region has contributed 1,543,000 signatures, and the Central Region accounts for 1,400,220.

PLU’s ambitious signature projection of 25 million would surpass the total number of registered voters recorded during Uganda’s 2026 general elections, which stood at 21,649,067. The mobilization strategy has seen registers distributed across Uganda’s 146 districts and 72,000 villages, complemented by digital platforms designed to broaden public participation.

Mwesigye expressed gratitude to supporters and party structures for their dedication, remaining confident that the organization will easily exceed its strategic goals well ahead of the 2027 deadline.
