Kampala Central Member of Parliament Minsa Kabanda has voiced strong optimism about keeping her parliamentary seat as she challenges the credibility of witnesses presented in an election petition against her.

The legal challenge was brought forward by National Unity Platform (NUP) secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya, who is contesting the outcome of the January 15 parliamentary elections. The Electoral Commission had previously declared Kabanda the winner after securing 22,280 votes compared to Rubongoya’s 18,211.

Speaking to the press after court proceedings, Kabanda raised concerns regarding the background of several witnesses testifying against her. She specifically mentioned individuals like Susan Kushaba, arguing that a significant portion of the opposing witnesses had previously supported other political candidates. Kabanda questioned the logic behind such individuals testifying in the current petition, suggesting their motives were questionable.

Furthermore, the MP claimed that some witnesses appeared to have memorized statements but struggled to maintain consistency during cross-examination. She argued that these alleged memory lapses and contradictions significantly weaken the opposing side’s evidence.

Despite the ongoing court battle at the High Court in Kampala—which features allegations of electoral irregularities such as ballot stuffing, multiple voting, and voter intimidation—Kabanda remains unfazed. She told her supporters to stay calm, remain confident, and expect a favorable outcome as proceedings continue.
