The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA), alongside the Ministry of Education and Sports, has officially unveiled the host institutions for the 2027 national school sports championships following a comprehensive inspection of bidding schools.
Among the major highlights, Kabalega SS in the Bunyoro region is set to host the U-20 boys’ football championship in May 2027. This marks a notable return for the school, which previously hosted the tournament back in 2006 when it was known as the Coca-Cola Cup. USSSA President Justus Mugisha noted that the selection heavily favoured regional rotation, as Bunyoro was previously overlooked when other western sub-regions hosted recent editions.
While Kabalega SS presented 13 pitches—exceeding minimum requirements—the school must address identified gaps in sanitation, accommodation, and playing surfaces. Backed by local government and alumni, the institution is expected to kick off remedial works during the December holidays to meet strict standards, which include proper pitch drainage for television broadcast quality.
Other notable allocations include St Kaggwa Bushenyi and Bweranyangi Girls jointly hosting Ball Games I and athletics. Meanwhile, Nyakasura School and Kyebambe Girls will manage Ball Games II, and Janan SS Bombo alongside Standard High Zzana will handle the Elite Games. Swimming will return to Seroma High School in Mukono.
To ensure readiness, USSSA has also designated standby hosts, including Mbarara High and St Mary’s Rushoroza. All primary hosts face a strict pass-or-fail compliance inspection in January 2027, where security, medical provisions, and fully improved facilities will determine if they retain their hosting rights.
