The High Court sitting in Entebbe has officially moved to drop the parliamentary election petition concerning the Busiro County South Constituency in Wakiso District. This legal development comes in the wake of the death of the petitioner, Charles Matovu.

According to a formal notice issued by the court on October 28, 2026, Election Petition No. 001 of 2026 has abated. The decision follows the unfortunate passing of Matovu, who was the sole petitioner in the case, on October 22, 2026.

Judicial authorities grounded the termination of the case in established legal provisions. The court cited Section 86 of the Parliamentary Elections Act (Cap 177), alongside Rule 20 of the Parliamentary Elections (Interim Provisions) Rules, which dictate the procedure when a petitioner passes away during ongoing election disputes.

With the petition now formally abated, the legal challenge regarding the Busiro County South parliamentary election has effectively come to an end.
