The Buganda Kingdom has furthered its financial inclusion agenda by opening a new CBS PEWOSA SACCO branch in Kyaggwe County. Officially launched in Mukono Municipality near the Ministry of Water and Environment offices in Kawuga, the new facility aims to encourage local residents to embrace savings and cooperative credit systems to improve household incomes.

Speaking at the launch, the Second Deputy Katikkiro and Kingdom Treasurer, Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, stressed that fighting poverty requires active participation in the financial system. He highlighted that the SACCO—which originated from CBS Radio listeners—has evolved into a trusted financial pillar across Buganda. Nsibirwa urged residents to save diligently and borrow responsibly to fund income-generating ventures, assuring them that kingdom authorities closely monitor the security of funds.

Local leadership revealed that the Kyaggwe branch already boasts 52 registered groups comprising over 1,100 members, alongside 207 individual members and three schools, having collectively mobilised more than Shs200 million in savings. Kyaggwe County Chief Ssekiboobo Vincent Matovu welcomed the development, challenging locals to emulate the success of the Buddu branch in Masaka City.

According to Hajj Amisi Kakomo Mukasa, the Kingdom’s Minister for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, the rollout marks the 12th branch in the network. The administration plans to expand the initiative to all Buganda counties by the first half of 2027. CBS Radio Managing Director Michael Kawooya Mwebe noted that as the station approaches its 30th anniversary, the growth of CBS PEWOSA SACCO remains a landmark contribution to the socio-economic welfare of the Kabaka’s subjects.
