Uganda’s tourism sector is making strong waves in the United Kingdom following a successful opening leg of a new destination roadshow in Glasgow, Scotland. Spearheaded by the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) alongside the Uganda High Commission in London, the promotional tour is designed to showcase the East African nation’s diverse attractions and build lasting partnerships with international travel trade professionals ahead of the World Travel Market (WTM) 2026.
The Glasgow event successfully convened 23 travel trade representatives from Glasgow and Edinburgh alongside 12 Ugandan tour operators. Attendees participated in an intensive five-hour networking session featuring comprehensive presentations, cultural highlights, and over 60 business-to-business meetings. Dorcas Namajja, a Senior Marketing Officer at UTB, led a destination presentation emphasizing Uganda’s rich wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, cultural heritage, and ongoing sustainability and conservation initiatives.
The interactive evening also treated guests to a tasting experience of Uganda Waragi and exciting raffle draws. The direct engagement yielded immediate positive results, successfully capturing the attention of travel agents who had not previously considered the Pearl of Africa for their client portfolios.
Several travel agents expressed immediate enthusiasm, with one attendee committing to visit Uganda next year. Additionally, a representative from Allan Water Travel announced definitive plans to organize a group tour of eight visitors to the country following the presentation. These early commitments underscore the effectiveness of face-to-face marketing in converting international curiosity into tangible tourism bookings.
The roadshow campaign continues its trajectory across the UK, moving next to Manchester and Birmingham. Through these strategic engagements, Uganda aims to further expand its international footprint, encourage group travel, and welcome a rising wave of British tourists eager to explore its unique natural and cultural treasures.
