The launch of Uganda Airlines’ direct flight between Entebbe and Accra has created a vital aviation link designed to boost cross-border tourism and trade between East and West Africa. Tourism officials and private sector operators are leveraging this connection to develop collaborative travel packages, aiming to draw visitors from non-traditional markets.

During a high-level engagement in the Ghanaian capital, representatives from the Ghana Tourism Authority emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation. Officials noted that the direct flight should serve as a practical framework where travel operators from both nations can cross-market unique attractions, ranging from rich historical sites to diverse wildlife.

Uganda Tourism Board and Uganda Wildlife Authority representatives highlighted the country’s prime natural assets, including mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, and expansive national parks. With Uganda home to more than half of the world’s mountain gorilla population, the nation views West Africa as a promising market to increase foreign exchange earnings and tourism revenues.

Meanwhile, Ghana offers compelling cultural tourism products, featuring historic sites, vibrant festivals, and deep-rooted traditions that appeal directly to East African travelers. Transport ministers from both regions stress that the aviation link is intended to reduce travel times and serve as a catalyst for broader regional integration and economic growth.

Industry analysts point out that while seamless air connectivity is a major milestone, the ultimate success of the route depends on competitive pricing, simplified booking processes, and sustained private sector partnerships across the tourism value chain.
