The legal proceedings against a former Gulu High Court intern accused of sharing confidential court documents online hit a roadblock on Wednesday. The trial, taking place at the Gulu Chief Magistrate’s Court, failed to kick off because the defense counsel were indisposed.

Gloria Grace Laker, a Law Development Centre student pursuing a Diploma in Law, faces charges of unauthorized disclosure and data dissemination. The allegations stem from an incident between March 6 and March 9, 2026, when she allegedly accessed and leaked sensitive criminal register details regarding National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, during her clerkship internship.

When the case was called before Gulu Magistrate Ashraf Muyunga, the defense team was notably absent. Counsel Stephen Komakech, stepping in for lead advocates Stephen Loboloke and Oscar Kiiza, requested a postponement so the primary legal team could properly represent the accused.

Magistrate Muyunga granted the request and extended Laker’s bail, pushing the hearing of the prosecution’s case to December 8, 2026. Meanwhile, state prosecutor Patricia Adyedo informed the court that investigations are fully complete and witnesses are ready to testify as soon as the defense is available.

Laker has maintained her innocence and pleaded not guilty to all charges under the Computer Misuse Act and Penal Code Act. Read more details about the case in the Daily Monitor.
