The long-awaited Shs3.8 billion corruption trial involving former Ministry of Trade Permanent Secretary Geraldine Ssali and several co-accused persons has experienced yet another major legal roadblock.
Former Busiiki County Member of Parliament, Paul Akamba, has officially moved to the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court in Kampala with a fresh application. He is seeking to suspend proceedings concerning his human rights enforcement application until the Supreme Court determines an intended appeal.
The latest legal maneuver centers around a judgment delivered by the Constitutional Court on June 2, 2026, in consolidated references and petitions. Mr. Akamba, through an affidavit supporting his request, expressed deep dissatisfaction with the Constitutional Court’s ruling and is now taking his quest for justice to the highest appellate court in the country.
This high-profile graft case has effectively remained stalled since June 2024. Throughout this prolonged period, not a single prosecution witness has managed to take the stand to testify against the accused individuals, who include lawmakers and ministry officials.
Legal analysts note that the ongoing constitutional challenges and subsequent appeals will likely extend the timeline for the case significantly, keeping the public waiting for a resolution on the alleged misuse of public funds.
