Rotary District 9213 observed World Polio Day on Saturday, October 24, 2026, through impactful health initiatives across Kampala and Wakiso. The district spearheaded comprehensive polio immunisation campaigns in Bweyogerere and Kinawataka, reinforced by the donation of essential medical equipment to a local health facility.
At Bweyogerere Health Centre III, around 100 children received critical polio vaccinations during an event organised alongside the Rotary Club of Bweyogerere-Namboole, RC Manyangwa, and RC Najjera. The campaign operated under the powerful district message, “One District. One Promise. END POLIO NOW.” Uganda’s Ministry of Health was instrumental in the drive, providing healthcare personnel, vaccine cold-chain logistics, and clinical supplies.
Following the morning session, District Governor Gerald Obai and District PolioPlus Officer PAG Edith Mujwisa led a team to Kinawataka in Kampala. There, the Rotary Club of Port Bell hosted a separate immunisation exercise that successfully reached approximately 200 children.
In addition to protecting youngsters from polio, the Rotary Club of Bweyogerere-Namboole enhanced local healthcare delivery by donating a modern dental chair unit valued at UGX 20 million to the Bweyogerere Health Centre III. The facility also received corporate backing from Harris International, which provided drinking water, soft drinks, and snacks for the participants and volunteers.
PAG Edith Mujwisa underscored the importance of sustained vigilance, noting that every vaccinated child brings the world closer to total eradication. District 9213 continues to encourage clubs and communities to educate, advocate, and give in the ongoing global fight against polio. Read more about the event on Nile Post.
