Retired Lt Gen Peter Elwelu, the former Deputy Commander of Defence Forces, has reportedly gone into hiding out of severe fear for his personal safety. According to a family member who spoke on condition of anonymity, the retired general felt compelled to conceal his whereabouts following escalating tensions and alarming public statements.

The situation intensified after Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba took to social media to level serious accusations against his former deputy. In the public posts, Gen Kainerugaba labeled Lt Gen Elwelu a “traitor,” claimed to have stripped him of his rank down to a Private, and threatened to declare him a rebel if he failed to surrender.

However, family sources indicate that the military figure’s troubles began well before these online declarations. Relatives revealed that Lt Gen Elwelu first noticed unidentified individuals tracking his movements in the aftermath of the recent general elections, prompting growing anxiety over his security.

The unfolding situation has drawn significant public attention as tensions within military circles spill into the public eye. Neither military authorities nor the retired general have released further official statements regarding his exact location or the status of the alleged threats.
