President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni recently hosted the European Union Special Representative for the Great Lakes Region, Mr. Johan Borgstam, at State House in Entebbe. The high-level meeting centered on pressing regional peace and security matters, with particular emphasis on the ongoing conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

During the discussions, President Museveni strongly advocated for diplomatic engagement. He stressed that peaceful negotiations remain the only viable path to resolving the protracted crisis affecting eastern DRC.

“The only solution is talk. Stop all these threats and wars and everything else and talk, because it is unfair that the people of Congo are suffering because of this stubbornness to refuse to talk,” President Museveni stated.

The Ugandan leader highlighted that the long-suffering citizens of the DRC deserve immediate relief and the democratic space to shape their own future through peaceful means.

In response, Mr. Borgstam praised President Museveni for his extensive experience and influential leadership in regional diplomacy. He noted that the European Union delegation specifically visited Uganda to tap into the President’s wisdom regarding the complex challenges facing the Great Lakes region.

The talks were also attended by key diplomatic figures, including EU Ambassador to Uganda H.E. Jan Sadek, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation H.E. Eole Sury, and Political Adviser Mr. Tristan Terryn.
