Security forces in Gulu City have made a major breakthrough following the arrest of three individuals linked to the brutal murder of Chris Nyeko, a former laboratory technician at Gulu University.

According to police records at Gulu East Police Station under file CRB 259/2026, the suspects have been identified as Alex Okwera, Innocent Latim, and Ronald Kinyera. The tragic incident occurred back in May 2026, when the 40-year-old victim was beaten to death by assailants shortly after leaving a nightclub. His body was subsequently dumped near St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Laroo-Pece Division, just 100 meters from the university’s main campus.

The breakthrough materialized when suspect Alex Okwera guided detectives through a reconstruction of the crime scene. SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa West Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the arrests, noting that comprehensive operational reports from the Criminal Investigations Department were still being compiled.

Gulu University’s Senior Communications Officer, James Ojok Onono, praised the police for their swift action and expressed hope that accountability would be served for the slain staff member.

This arrest arrives amidst broader security anxieties within the university precincts. The campus community recently mourned the death of John Bosco Ngire Ocen, a 23-year-old education student who was bludgeoned to death with a hammer along Te-Got Road on October 10, 2026. Two teenage suspects, Gerald Omara and Ambrose Rom, have since been charged with murder and aggravated robbery in connection with Ocen’s death and remain remanded in custody.
