The Ugandan Ministry of Internal Affairs is currently reviewing a potential partnership with Aratek Biometrics aimed at strengthening its digital infrastructure. This prospective collaboration follows an expression of interest by the technology firm to provide advanced digital solutions and biometric systems tailored to the ministry’s mandate.

A high-level meeting regarding the initiative was chaired by the State Minister for Internal Affairs, Juma Witonze Kisekka. The session brought together the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, various heads of departments and agencies, alongside corporate representatives from Aratek Biometrics, to deliberate on prospective areas of cooperation.

Discussions primarily centered on leveraging unique physical and behavioural identification traits—such as fingerprints and facial recognition—to enhance identity management, streamline official record processing, and boost overall operational efficiency.

Minister Kisekka emphasized that engaging proactive technology providers is vital for assessing how modern biometric systems can be seamlessly integrated into government work. He noted that the exploratory talks provide a valuable framework for identifying digital solutions designed to elevate service delivery standards across the board.

Despite the positive outlook, officials confirmed that the discussions are still in preliminary phases. The exact scope of the potential collaboration, implementation timelines, and specific technologies to be deployed have not yet been finalised.

Furthermore, stakeholders noted that any future agreement must heavily prioritize stringent data protection, privacy measures, and robust system security to safeguard sensitive biometric information handled by the government.
