The cultural leadership crisis in the Lango sub-region has deepened further after the Lango Cultural Foundation (LCF) Electoral Commission declared Mr Benjamin Benat Okii as a rival Paramount Chief, locally known as the Won Nyaci.
Mr Okii, who serves as the leader of the Okii Bura Clan, was announced as the sole qualified candidate following the close of the nomination period. According to the announcement, his official enthronement has been scheduled for November 14, 2026. Notably, this date coincides with the planned memorial service for the late Won Nyaci, Yosam Odur Ebii.
The development marks another chapter in the ongoing leadership disputes and factional divisions within Lango cultural governance. Various stakeholders have previously clashed over succession matters, public appointments, and legal battles concerning the rightful leadership of the institution.
As rival camps continue to assert their legitimacy, community leaders and government officials have frequently urged factions to embrace dialogue and unity to foster regional development rather than prolonged internal conflicts. The unfolding events leading up to the slated November enthronement are expected to draw significant attention from cultural enthusiasts and local leaders alike.
