First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community (EAC) Affairs, Ms. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, has highlighted the importance of dialogue in resolving regional economic challenges. According to her, persistent trade barriers and non-tariff bottlenecks can be successfully resolved through consensus formally agreed upon by all EAC partner states.
Speaking on regional integration, Ms. Kadaga noted that utilizing agreed formal frameworks is essential for eliminating impediments that restrict cross-border commerce. By smoothing out these friction points, regional nations can unlock untapped economic potential and allow sectors such as tourism to thrive.
Intra-regional trade within East Africa has frequently faced hurdles ranging from high logistics costs and regulatory fragmentation to supply chain inefficiencies. However, leadership intervention focusing on harmonized rules and mutual agreement continues to be front and center in driving the bloc forward.
Stakeholders across the region continue to advocate for cohesive policy frameworks to support initiatives like digital trade and cross-border tourism. Consensus among member states remains a vital tool for fostering sustainable economic growth and integration.
