African royal delegates and cultural representatives have converged in Kenya for celebrations marking the fourth coronation anniversary of Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot, the cultural leader of the Iteso community. The community spans both Uganda and Kenya, uniting members across national borders under a single traditional leadership.
The international guests were initially welcomed at Entebbe International Airport by a delegation from the Teso Cultural Institution, headed by David Emoit, the Minister for Information and International Relations. The festivities are scheduled to run from August 29 to 31 in Busia, Kenya.
Speaking to the press, Emoit noted that nearly 60 international delegates and royals from across the continent arrived for the event. The celebrations are being held under a theme emphasizing cultural diversity while actively mobilizing support and resources for the construction of the Iteso cultural palace.
The high-profile attendees include representatives of esteemed royal houses from South Africa and Zimbabwe, operating under the umbrella of the African Kingdoms Diaspora Alliance (AGDA). Prince Tulane Zulu, representing the South African delegation alongside figures from the Zulu, Ndebele, and Basotho royal houses, emphasized that traditional institutions play a critical role in reconnecting African communities.
“We are here because we were invited for the inauguration of King Sande, aware that this is also aimed at fundraising for the palace,” Prince Zulu stated, noting that the gathering serves to rebuild relationships fragmented by historical divisions.
The event has likewise drawn notable figures such as Eswatini’s foreign affairs minister and a representative of the Khoisan people. Organisers also anticipated possible attendance from the presidents of Uganda and Kenya, further elevating the stature of the cross-border cultural milestone.
